Residents release a green sea turtle back into the sea in Badoc, Ilocos Norte.

ILOCOS NORTE – A green sea turtle was released back into the sea in Badoc, Ilocos Norte on Monday afternoon.

The green sea turtle was accidentally entangled in the fishing net of fishermen from Barangay Saud in Badoc.

It measures approximately 16 inches long and 14 inches wide.

The fishermen immediately reported the incident to the Barangay Fisherman Association, since they are aware that catching the sea turtle is punishable by law.

Sea turtles and marine mammals are protected under the Philippine law and catching them is punishable by imprisonment of at least 12 years.

The presence of turtles in the sea of Badoc, Ilocos Norte is a manifestation of its rich and clean environment.
