Quake strikes Davao Occidental, Surigao del Sur

MANILA – An earthquake rattled the provinces of Davao Occidental and Surigao del Sur on Sunday morning, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

State seismologists said a magnitude 4.0 earthquake, which had a depth of 50 kilometers, struck 56 kilometers west of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 9:09 a.m.

It was felt at Intensity II in General Santos City.

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake also hit Surigao del Sur at 9:25 a.m.

Located 12 south of Carmen town, the tremor had a depth of 12 kilometers, Philvolcs said.

The following intensities were reported:

Intensity IV - Carmen, Cantilan and Lanuza, Surigao del Sur
Intensity III - Tandag City, Surigao del Sur
Intensity II - Surigao City

No major damage and aftershocks were expected from the earthquakes which were both tectonic in origin.
