MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday hit an unnamed government official for allegedly taking extravagant trips abroad.

In a speech during a dinner he hosted for the Philippine Air Force Dragon Boat Team, Duterte said the government official was not from the executive department.

“Kung magsakay ng eroplano, mag-abroad, first-class. Tapos ang mga hotel niya, ‘yung mga suite. May isang Presidential suite pa ang kinuha,” he said in his speech Tuesday, footage of which was released Wednesday.

He did not give other details.

The President also recalled firing several government officials over corruption.

“I have fired so many people in government. May two weeks pa lang doon sa Cabinet, may binigwasan na ako eh. Imagine, after taking office, nag-gather ng mga governors pati mayors, nag-junket na kaagad doon sa Washington, D.C.,” he said.

Upon his election last year, Duterte vowed to pursue frugal governance, mandating his appointees to lead modest lifestyles and himself taking economy class flights whenever he flies to his hometown Davao City.

Recently, Duterte said he would resign if any of his children is proven corrupt. This followed a customs broker's testimony implicating his son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, in smuggling.
