MANILA - A magnitude 5.0 earthquake that struck Bukidnon province on Saturday afternoon damaged several buildings and injured one person.

In Barangay Lurogan in Valencia City, Bukidnon, 3 houses were damaged including a 3-story apartment building whose walls cracked.

Falling debris also injured a 64-year-old resident of the building, identified as Betty Pardillo.

Eight families occupying the apartment have sought temporary shelter in tents outside their home.

Several government establishments -- like the village hall of Barangay Banlag and city's New Bus Terminal -- also showed cracks.

The local government has pegged the initial cost of damage to infrastructure at P57,500.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) earlier said the epicenter of Saturday's quake was located about 11 kilometers southwest of Valencia, Bukidnon.

Local disaster officials have since recorded one aftershock. They advised residents to remain vigilant. -- With Rod Bolivar, ABS-CBN News
