MARAWI - Residents of the town of Marantao, Lanao del Sur were alarmed after at least six bombs hit two of their barangays Sunday morning.

No one was reported injured in the blasts, but the bombs caused panic in some areas.

At around 7 a.m., a bomb hit the fence of a school in Brgy. Ragaya where some 480 students were about to hold classes.

"Nung sumabog 'yung bomba kung saan saan napunta mga bata, may nadapa, hinimatay 'yung iba, pinupulot namin umiiyak," said Nasser Dimapinto, an official of the school.

Another bomb hit the house of an officer of the United Nations World Food Programme.

"Papalapit sana ako; bubuksan ko yung gate. Bigla na lang pumutok. Masyado malakas. Medyo nawala ako sa sarili ko. Napatalon ako bigla," said the house's caretaker Norodin Sapaluden.

Another bomb landed inside Macaraya's compound but did not explode.

Nabel Mohamadali, another resident of the barangay, also said a bomb hit their house but did not explode.

"Nung palabas na kami ng kapatid ko biglang may pumasok na bomba. Buti na lang di sumabog kung 'di patay na kami," Mohamadali said.

In Brgy. Matampay, a bomb also exploded in a residential area forcing around a hundred people to flee and seek shelter at the municipal hall.

"Basta malakas 'yun sir, malapit sa amin. 'Yung iba nag-iyakan, mga babae, mga bata natakot," said resident Jamira Macabalang.

Residents said the bombs may have come from government troops, but the military denied this.

Muhammad Abinal, chief of staff of the Marantao Mayor's Office, earlier said it could have been a case of stray bombs as the military was targeting Brgy. Bangan in the neighboring town of Piagapo where Maute fighters were allegedly regrouping.

Joint Task Force Marawi spokesperson Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay however, claimed the bombs came from the terrorists.

"Our troops immediately conducted investigation on the said reported explosions at around 7 in the morning at the boundary of Marantao and MSU, and the initial result is indicative that it could be caused by retaliatory fires from the enemy," Petinglay said in a statement to ABS-CBN.

"None of our indirect fire weapons were employed this morning; none that could possibly reach the area of impact. Our units are still further investigating as to where particularly the enemy fires came from," Petinglay added.

Abinal, meanwhile, said Marantao is free from the terror group, but they are ready to face the terrorists in case of an attack.

"Kaming mga taga-Marantao lalaban kami sa ISIS magpatayan kami pati mga barangay chairman namin," Abinal said.
