MISAMIS ORIENTAL - The Bureau of Customs seized Wednesday five container vans containing P15-million worth of smuggled goods in Misamis Oriental.

Tons of smuggled pork meat were seized from two container vans at the Mindanao Container Terminal in Misamis Oriental

Customs agents first seized two container vans with tons of smuggled frozen pork meat at the Mindanao Container Terminal. The vans were shipped from France and the Netherlands by Mondial Food and Jestin Sas, and were seized on June 21 and June 28 respectively.

The consignee of the shipment is one UML Farm Trading and Marketing Corporation in Antipolo City.

According to the BOC, the vans were seized in violation of the Food and Safety Act of 2013.

Another van containing three vintage cars worth P4 million was also confiscated by the agency. The vehicles were shipped from the United States to a certain Rodulf Golez from Cagayan de Oro City as consignee.

A container van with three vintage cars worth P4 million was confiscated by the Bureau of Customs for failing to comply with necessary import permits.

The shipment did not comply with the necessary import permits.

Golez, in a text message, said he considers the violation a minor one.

Meanwhile, two other vans containing beddings, curtains, and assorted goods were seized due to misdeclaration.

Alvin Enciso, chief of intelligence of the Bureau of Customs CDO, said the BOC is strengthening its efforts to stop illegal brokers and corrupt officials in the agency in line with President Rodrigo Duterte's marching orders against corruption.

The BOC has yet to decide whether the meat will be buried or left to decay inside the vans.

The clothes and the beddings will be shredded while the cars will be put up for auction.
