MANILA -- Opposition lawmakers will wear 'protest barongs' for the "People's State of the Nation Address," where thousands of activists from various groups are expected to join.

Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate is set to wear a barong bearing images of the Filipinos representing the sectors calling for the resumption of the peace talks between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

Zarate's protest barong was designed by Karapatan legal counsel, Ma. Sol Taule.

Kabataan Rep. Sarah Elago, meanwhile, will wear a dress, bearing images of marginalized and oppressed Filipinos.

The artwork in Elago's dress was made by Philippine Women's University student Maricris Arellano. The dress was sewn by another artist-activist Anna Vania.

Gabriela Rep. Emmi de Jesus, meanwhile, will wear a barong and skirt beaded with the words "Babae Ako," as part of the movement calling for an end to all forms of abuses against women.

Activists have been busy making banners and effigies, as they prepare for their huge protest action for President Rodrigo Duterte's SONA on Monday.

Human rights abuses and "failed" policies of the administration are among the issues that they will tackle during their own version of the SONA outside Batasang Pambansa on Monday.

The country's national police force will be deploying 6,000 policemen to secure Duterte's SONA. Members of the Commission on Human Rights have been invited to observe. -- report from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
