MANILA - Bureau of Corrections Director Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa confirmed on Tuesday that he will run for governor of Davao del Sur in the upcoming 2019 polls.

The former Philippine National Police chief, who led the administration's war on drugs, made the confirmation after he transferred his voter's registration to Santa Cruz in Davao del Sur.

"Well that is in preparation for the incoming 2019 elections because the last instructions given to me by the president is for me to run as governor of Davao del Sur," he said.

In previous interviews, Dela Rosa had said he will be leaving the decision up to President Rodrigo Duterte whether he will run for senator or governor.

In a recent Pulse Asia survey for possible Senatorial bets in 2019, Dela Rosa made it to the "Magic 12," alongside Duterte's daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
