MANILA - Aspiring political parties for the 2019 elections should file their petitions for registration on July 15, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Wednesday.

Under Section 8, Rule 32 of the poll body's rules of procedure, the registration of any political party or coalition of political parties may be cancelled after due notice and hearing upon “failure to field official candidates in the last two preceding elections or failure of their candidates to obtain at least five (5) per centum of the votes cast in the last two preceding elections,” among other grounds.
