MANILA - The Department of Justice said Sunday that it will release its decision on the appeal of embattled Australian nun Patricia Fox to reinstate her missionary visa on Monday.

Monday marks the deadline set by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for the 71-year-old Fox to leave the Philippines for allegedly engaging in "partisan political activities."

President Rodrigo Duterte himself said he wanted the "foul-mouthed" Fox investigated for supposedly criticizing his government, but denied that he sought her arrest and deportation.

The Australian nun however said in her counter-affidavit that while she had joined rallies and assemblies of farmers, workers and indigenous peoples, these were not partisan activities against the government, but were meant to help promote and protect the rights of the poor and needy.

Fox asked the DOJ last month to reverse the bureau's order cancelling her visa.

She claimed her right to due process was violated.
