MANILA - A low-pressure area developed within the Philippine area of responsibility and intensified into a storm, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

Weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said tropical depression "Domeng" is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon which may trigger heavy rains over Luzon and Visayas on Thursday.

Domeng's center was last spotted 675 kilometers east of Guian, Eastern Samar. It was packing 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of 60 kilometers per hour.

The storm was not expected to hit the Philippine land mass but rains caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon will be concentrated in the western section of Luzon and Visayas.

PAGASA was also monitoring another low-pressure area outside the Philippine area of responsibility but the state weather bureau said this will likely dissipate as it combines with Domeng in the coming days.
