MANILA – The charred remains of the suspect who stormed inside Resorts World Manila on Friday also had a gunshot wound to the head.

Southern Police District Director, Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario Jr., said the bullet wound was discovered by Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) who processed the hotel room where the still unidentified suspect's body was found.

"It entered the chin and exited sa bunbunan, sa head. Most probably, ang nangyari sinindihan niya yung kuwarto, humiga siya and then nag-commit siya ng suicide," Apolinario said.

The suspect opened fire after barging into the casino. He also set some gaming tables on fire and ransacked the casino’s chip storage area.

But Apolinario noted that none of the injured people suffered gunshot wounds.

"Sa mga wounded, wala tayong gunshot wounds na na-report. Puro mga bruises, pilay. In case may namatay, sila naman ay na-suffocate sa fumes," said SPD director Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario Jr.

The attack, he said, was not terrorist-related but more a criminal act with the intention of robbing the casino.

"Nagpaputok sa taas, hindi sa tao," he said.

He added that they only received one report of a security guard who had a gunshot wound but it was accidentally self-inflicted.

"Inamin naman niyang self-inflicted. Siguro ninerbiyos, naputok niya yung kanyang baril, tinamaan yung paa niya, slight wound lang naman," he said.

Police recovered the back pack of the suspect with the chips he stole from the casino. The stolen chips amounted to P113 million, police said.

Also recovered were the two firearms used by the suspect in the rampage.

Meanwhile, he police cannot confirm that the 34 bodies earlier found inside the casino are already dead.

"The hospital has yet to confirm kung patay na talaga," he said.

With the fire already contained and the suspect dead, police said the danger is now over. They are now starting their investigation into the identity of the gunman.
