MANILA - The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said Sunday it would appoint a civilian spokesperson who will give updates on the government's ongoing operations against the Maute group in Marawi City.

The spokesperson will serve under "Mindanao Hour" Communications Center in Davao City, which will be the main source of information on the declaration of martial law in Mindanao, according to PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar

"In this time of crisis, it is strategically wise for us to expand our communications language from national to regional in order to avoid marginalizing those who are most affected by the declaration of Martial Law," Andanar said in a statement.

The Mindanao Hour Communications Center and the Malacañang will both give regular briefings based on information from conflict areas.

Andanar will head the Mindanao Hour Communications Center in Davao while Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Harold Clavite will lead the center's Iligan branch.

The Mindanao Hour's briefings will be aired live on PCOO's attached agencies and on their Facebook pages starting the first week of June.
