MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) will follow a new format and tackle issues close to his heart, his spokesperson said Tuesday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque did not elaborate, saying he does not want to preempt the President’s report to the nation set in July.

He, however, said the speech would most likely tackle issues that the President normally discusses, such as the campaign against corruption.

“May bagong format at ang mangyayari iyong SONA really, malilimita siya doon sa mga gusto talagang sabihin ng Presidente sa taumbayan. So iyong mga achievement, siguro may mga ibang pagkakataon nang isa-isahin iyan,” Roque said in a Palace press briefing.

(There's a new format and what will happen is that the SONA will cover what the President really wants to say to the public. So the achievements, perhaps that will be discussed one by one another time.)

The annual speech traditionally features an enumeration of an incumbent's achievements.

“Pero talagang iyong SONA will be the President talking to the people and reporting to the people on matters na malapit sa puso po ng ating Presidente. At doon po lumabas iyong kampanya niya sa korapsyon na wala pong tigil at wala pong kupas iyong kampanya.”

(But the SONA will be the President talking to the people and reporting to the people on matters that are close to his heart. And that's where the unrelenting campaign against corruption comes out.)

The President will deliver his third SONA on July 23. During his first two SONAs, he went off-script and attacked his critics.
