MANILA - Metro Manila police chief Director Oscar Albayalde on Wednesday said there will be no "bata-bata" or patronage system in choosing his successor.

Albayalde is set to assume the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on April 19, replacing the incumbent chief, Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.

The police official said he will seek the recommendation of his colleagues before choosing the one who will lead the metro's police force.

"I will also ask for the recommendation of other officials. We need to talk this out. Masama naman pag ako lang magdedecide," Albayalde said.

"Si Presidente nga hindi inadopt ang bata-bata system, tayo pa kaya?" he added.

The incoming PNP chief also said he will ask an oversight committee to review key positions in the force to determine if there is a need for a major reshuffle.

Albayalde said it is not proper to just implement a major reshuffle without deliberation and evaluation with the other PNP officials.

"There should be a deliberation and evaluation dito. Probably we will be activating our oversight committee kung talagang papalitan o hindi," he said.
