MANILA - Contrary to President Rodrigo Duterte's allegation, Vice President Leni Robredo is not working with his rivals to claim the presidency for herself, her aide said Monday.
"Siyempre, entitled naman ang Pangulo natin na sabihin kung anong mga naiisip niya. Pero sana po ay tingnan din kung saan nanggagaling dahil wala naman po talagang ganoong plano. At hindi po nag-aapura si VP Leni sa anuman," Georgina Hernandez, Robredo's spokesperson, said in a chance interview.
(Of course, our President is entitled to voice out whatever he thinks. But we hope that he would also look into his basis because there is really no plan to take away the presidency. The President is not rushing anything.)
Before leaving for Myanmar on Sunday, Duterte said he "wouldn't be surprised" if Robredo had a hand in the impeachment case filed against him last week by Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano.
He later told the Filipino community in Myanmar that, "Mga kalaban ko… Si Leni, apurado masyado maging Presidente." (My rivals, Leni are very eager to make her the President.)
Duterte's ally, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez also accused Robredo of rushing to have Duterte impeached because she fears that the Supreme Court may order a recount of votes in the vice presidential elections last May.
