MANILA - The Judicial and Bar Council has announced the opening for the submission of applications or recommendations for the position of Ombudsman and one seat at the Supreme Court.

The announcement came in light of the scheduled end of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales' 7-year term on July 26 and expected retirement of Supreme Court Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr. on August 8.

Morales was appointed Ombudsman by former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III in 2011, while Velasco was appointed to the high court by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2006.
