MANILA - A cop linked to the Davao Death Squad who allegedly found "spiritual renewal" after dreaming of a visitation of a child-like image got a short sermon on the matter from Senator Manny Pacquiao on Monday.
“Alam mo ba yang spiritual renewal? Naintindihan mo ba yan?…Alam ko kung ano ang spiritual renewal,” Pacquiao told Lascañas during a Senate hearing on the alleged Davao Death Squad.
(Do you know what spiritual renewal is? Do you understand that? I know what spiritual renewal is.)
Lascañas said weakening health and a dream of a "child-like image" saving him from the devil prompted him to finally tell everything he knows about the DDS.
Pacquiao said spiritual renewal means fearing to commit wrong, reading the bible, and telling the truth.
“Alam mo pag ginamit ko ang Panginoon takot ako niyan. Pag spiritual renewal nagbago ka na talaga,” Pacquiao said.
(When I use the Lord, I am afraid. When you say spiritual renewal, it means you have changed.)
The senator took a swipe at Lascañas for allegedly accepting allowances from President Rodrigo Duterte even after his said renewal.
Lascañas revealed that he receives a monthly allowance of P100,000 from Duterte, the last of which was in January.
The self-confessed hitman then explained that he tried to return the money but was rejected by retired police officer Sonny Buenaventura because Duterte might “misinterpret” the act.
Pacquiao also quoted a bible verse as he questioned Lascañas on his testimony.
“The bible says 'Let your light shine upon your brothers and sisters.' How can your light shine na dalawa (2) testimony mo tapos nauna ang spiritual renewal mo?” he said.
The senator then offered to share his faith with Lascañas on spiritual renewal.
“One day I will share with you my experience on spiritual renewal and the bible but not here,” he said.
