MANILA - The indefinite leave of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno drew both cheers and jeers during a flag ceremony at the High Court on Monday.

The Supreme Court en banc last week urged Sereno to go on leave as she faced a possible impeachment trial at the Senate for allegedly misdeclaring her assets, bypassing colleagues and enjoying an extravagant lifestyle.

Dozens of court employees wore red and carried balloons to show support for the en banc decision. They also cheered as High Court magistrates appeared for the flag ceremony.

The weekly gathering, however, was punctuated with jeers from Sereno's supporters who camped outside the gates of the Supreme Court.

The group waved placards saying, "Laban CJ", "Supreme Court huwag magpatuta", and tirades against President Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte had repeatedly taunted Sereno for allegedly engaging in corrupt practices.

Sereno, who had denied the allegations against her, said she "looks forward" to a fair impeachment trial at the Senate.
