The Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter condemned the killing of Atty. Jonah John Ungab, the vice-mayor of Ronda town in Cebu.

Ungab was also the lawyer of self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa.

In a statement, Cebu Chapter President Atty. Mundlyn Martin said such acts of violence against lawyers "has no place in a civil society."

"As lawyers, we are only doing our job as mandated by the law and as our personal commitment to our clients," she said.

"We hope that society will understand our importance and our specific roles. Any act against us, either for vengeance or not, is an act of an uncivilized man. This shouldn’t be in this generation," she added.

Ungab was driving his car and was about to make a right turn when 2 individuals approached the driver's side and shot him along S. Osmeña Street in Cebu City, Monday.

Ungab had just come from a court promulgation related to a case against Espinosa.
