MANILA (UPDATED) - Former Caloocan City Mayor Macario 'Boy' Asistio Jr. has passed away, his family confirmed Monday.

Asistio's partner, actress Nadia Montenegro, broke the news in an Instagram post.

Thank you Lord for his life. Open the gates of heaven for Boy. Details of the interment will follow.

Earlier reports said Asistio suffered a mild stroke last Wednesday. He was comatose by Thursday.

Asistio died in Antipolo Medical Center at the age of 80.

Details of his interment were not immediately available.

Asistio served as mayor of Caloocan from 1980 to 1986 and from 1988 to 1995, according to the city's official website. He last ran for mayor in 2013 but lost to Oscar Malapitan.
