CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Residents of Purok 12, Barangay Tablon in Cagayan de Oro City were baffled after discovering two heavy pieces of metal in the ocean on Sunday.

Fishermen said they hauled in the two pieces of metal from the sea, thinking that they could sell it in junk shops.

"We get that so that we can sell it. The price of metal now is very high so we thought of selling it," said Rudy Gamo, a local fisherman.

However, the two decided to report their find to the authorities after seeing that the metal objects looked like explosives.

On Monday, the Explosive and Ordnance Division of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office checked the suspected item and confirmed that the two pieces of metals were unexploded ordnance that could have been used in World War II.

The EOD added that Barangay Tablon was once a docking place for American soldiers during the war. They said it is possible that there are still many unexploded ordnance that can be found under the sea.

They reminded residents not to touch it if they can see similar objects and immediately report it to authorities.
