Bohol Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel comes out of the Talibon Regional Trial Court flanked by police escorts after he pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges filed against him over the disappearance of his wife Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel, June 29, 2017. CEBU CITY - Bohol Board Member Niño Rey Boniel has been transferred to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) from the Talibon District Jail in Bohol as he faced trial over the disappearance and slay of his wife Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel.

The accused was transferred after the Talibon Regional Trial Court issued a commitment order Wednesday in compliance with the Supreme Court's directive to detain him in Cebu, instead of Bohol.

Boniel is facing a parricide case in Cebu for the alleged slay of his wife, who has been missing since June 2017.

Cases of kidnapping and serious physical injury against Boniel will also be transferred to a Cebu court.

The CPDRC management said no special treatment would be given to the Bohol official.

In June, Boniel pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges filed against him by the mayor's best friend Angela Leyson.

He was accused of shooting his wife while on board a boat off Caubian Island in Cebu on June 8. The mayor's body was then allegedly thrown overboard.

Search efforts have failed to locate the mayor's body.
