LA UNION– A female Green Sea Turtle was rescued by members of Bantay Dagat stationed in Barangay Lingsat, San Fernando City on Monday morning.

The turtle is 36.5 inches long and 34 inches wide and is estimated to be around 10 to 12 years of age.

Rescuers believe that the turtle sustained its wounds from either being caught in a fine mesh net or being hit by a boat.

It was seen floating in Mananawan Reef, a marine protected area in Lingsat where fishing is prohibited.

“Hindi naman po tayo nagkulang pagdating po sa patrolling,” Eduardo Apilado Jr., Project Officer of Lingsat Watch Tower, said.

The coastal areas of La Union are convenient nesting sites for turtles.

The turtle was sent back to the sea after its wounds healed with the help of the City Veterinarian.
