MANILA - Firefighters on Sunday said the blaze that engulfed the Metro Ayala Center mall in Cebu City was now under control.

Authorities had difficulty putting out the fire, which started Friday evening, due to the flammable textile and plastic products inside the 5-story mall, said Senior Supt. Samuel Tadeo, head of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Central Visayas.

No one was reported injured or killed in the incident, Tadeo earlier told radio DZMM.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire, which started at the mall's toy section in the third floor. They are also probing reports that the sprinklers and fire alarms at Metro Ayala did not function.
