MANILA - Inmates of the Bacolod City District Jail Male Dormitory were surprised when they saw Comedy King Dolphy’s son Dolphy Jr. enter the compound on Friday morning.

Donning a yellow shirt, the same color as that of BJMP inmates, Dolphy, Jr. or Rodolfo Dominguez Quizon, Jr. in real life, took the microphone, faced the crowd and introduced himself as one of them.

"Nagkaroon din ng di magandang ano, ang father ko dahil nagkaroon siya ng anak na naging addict. Galing din ako dun. Kagaya niyo rin ako. May pag-asa. Kahit kayo nandiyan, may purpose ang Diyos kaya kayo nandiyan. Kasi ako alam ko naman po na hindi lahat ng inmates may kasalanan din, " Dolphy Jr. shared.

Dolphy, Jr. openly told inmates he was convicted of arson with multiple homicide in 1981 - a crime, he insists, he did not do.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment. While inside prison, he said, he continued to use illegal drugs and his drug abuse even worsened. He confessed to have used heroin.

"Sigarilyo, alak, sugal, drugs, babae. Lahat ng kasalanan nasa akin. Nag start akong mag drugs, huwag kayong magulat ha, 1969 pa nagdo-droga na ako. Katorse anyos ako," he further told inmates.

Visiting jails and sharing his life and the word of God has been his mission since he got out of prison in 1998. He said one day in 1994, he was watching television when he was touched by the story shared by evangelist Bro. Eddie Villanueva. After hearing what Villanueva said, he decided to change and surrender his life to God.

From then on, he stopped all his vices and kept himself busy getting to know the Lord.

"Tinanggap ko ang Panginoon. Suddenly, nagbago ang aking buhay. Siguro ang pinalit ng Lord yung bible. Sa pagbabasa ko, nawala. Ang pinakamaganda na sila ay makakakilala rin sa Panginoong Diyos."

Former President Joseph Estrada granted him pardon on September 28, 1998. After his release, he started his mission to make people, especially those in jail, know God and to embrace a life of change.

He also gets invited by schools and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as resource speaker. He has been invited to speak also in Dubai and Hong Kong to keep young people away from drugs.

Aside from the District Jail in Bacolod, Dolphy, Jr. also visited and spoke to inmates of jails in Sagay and Kabankalan Cities in Negros Occidental.
