MANILA - Presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday revealed that his image as a cursing and trashtalking political candidate was merely part of a political strategy.

"Actually it's part of the political strategy... Someday, I will explain," Duterte said in a television interview.

Asked for an explanation, Duterte curtly said, "Iyan ang gusto nila," referring to his supporters who enjoy his tough-talking persona.

"Kita mo, dinagdagan ko pa. It was not even just a casual pagmumura. It was altogether, in one sentence, bumubuga ako," the incoming president explained.

Duterte also wondered why he gained a margin of 7 million votes against closest rival, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, if he really was foul-mouthed.

"Bakit ako nag-margin ng 7 million? Kung bastos ako? Kung nagmumura ako? Kung bad boy ako? Why?"

Meanwhile, the presumptive president said that he will be tolerant of dissenters in his administration, claiming he will not go after his critics when he assumes the presidency on June 30.

"I really do not care who hates me. I have been in politics for 22 years. I've learned to accept garbage," Duterte said.

He also vowed not to pursue charges against his political rivals.

"I am not the kind who would pursue political enemies. Do not expect me na hahabulin. Hindi ko trabaho yan, trabaho ng Ombudsman yan," Duterte said.
