MANILA - When Filipinos think of glamorous fashion shows and those who star in them, it is probably a safe bet to say that Katrina Gumabao, the plus-size model sister of volleyball player Michelle Gumabao, is not the first person who springs to mind for most.

But later this month, Katrina, also a talent manager and a make-up artist, aims to change just that, or at least remind her countrymen that body shaming should be a thing of the past, when she walks the runway at the debut of a plus-size fashion show in Australia.

"Plus-size can be defined as not fitting into the 'normal' mold of clothes. It does not necessarily mean you are fat because all people have fat. It can mean you have bigger thighs, wider hips, bigger boobs," explained Katrina in an interview with Coconuts Manila.

Armed with her dream of becoming an international model and a confidence instilled in her by close friends, she auditioned for Melbourne Fashion Week's first plus-size category. She managed to leave a lasting impression and is now one step closer towards her goal.

"My message to everyone, girl or boy, whatever size they are, is to go for it! Don't be afraid to follow your dreams. You have a story, share it, make it count and glorify God every step of the way. Inspire and live life to the fullest," Katrina said.
