MANILA -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) is still open to "reconsidering" its decision to cancel the Miss Universe fashion show in Davao, a tourism official said Thursday.

The DOT announced the event's cancellation Wednesday after the Davao Fashion and Design Council (DFDC) criticized the decision of the Miss Universe hosting committee to have industry veteran Renee Salud create the outfits of the candidates for the fashion show.

De Castro said critics should understand that the local fabrics developed in Mindanao will be the focus of the show, and not individual designers.
