HK eats: Hotel brings Hong Kong's street food culture indoors

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong is known as one of the best food cities in the world. There’s a lot of specialties you can chow down on in local cafes or sample from stalls while walking around the busy street markets.

For those looking for a more relaxing dining destination, Pentahotel Hong Kong Kowloon’s Eatstreet offers a lively choice for ala carte dining, breakfast, set lunches and dinner buffets.

In keeping with its neighborhood vibe, the 230-seat all-day dining establishment gets inspiration from market-style food stations and local culture. They offer authentic Hong Kong delicacies, traditional Chinese treats and other local favorites served in a stylish surroundings with contemporary rustic decor.

Food stalls are encased in metal mesh canopies adorned with funky street-style light box reminiscent of local food stands and open-air markets. The venue’s brick walls, vintage-like wrought iron folding gates and locally inspired accents replicate the classic Hong Kong Culture.

The hotel’s buffet’s food stations include grill, wok kitchen, deli, steam and noodle corners which serve Hong Kong favorites like char-grilled pork, pan-fried vegetable dumplings, fried egg rice and Hainan chicken rice, alongside international offerings like roasted lamb racks and iced seafood.

To welcome the summer season (until mid-September) in Hong Kong, its special Summer Seafood Dinner Buffet features a wide variety of seafood delicacies from around the world. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of seafood on ice, including fresh shucked oysters from Australia or New Zealand/Europe, snow crab leg, Vietnamese cooked shrimp, New Zealand mussels and jade whelk.

Special summer desserts include grass jelly, ice cream mochi, longjing/passionfruit and coconut panna cotta and special Jumbo Souffle.

Dinner bufet for adults is priced at HKD468 and HKD308 for children from Monday to Thursday. The price is HKD528 for adults and HKD358 for children from Friday to sunday.

Another cool dining spot to check out is Pentahotel’s Pizzabar, right next to the hotel’s main entrance.

The cozy bar offers authentic Italian-style and special pizzas topped with local flavors including char-grilled pork and fried dace (a type of fish from the Pearl River in China), as well as pasta and sandwiches.

Guests may enjoy pizzas on the spot or order for takeaway.
