MANILA – Two Philippine destinations made it to the “world’s best islands” list as voted by readers of the New York-based magazine Travel + Leisure.

Palawan placed sixth with a score of 90.04, dropping from its top spot last year. The island was also voted No. 1 in 2016 and 2013.

Cebu returned to the New York-based magazine’s list after failing to make the cut last year, sealing the eighth spot with a score of 89.10.

The country’s “Queen City of the South” ranked sixth in 2016.

“This year’s winners include surprises as well as familiar favorites. The Edenic Philippine outpost of Palawan scored the top spot on this list in 2013 and in 2017; it also makes the grade this year, although it cedes the top spot to a surprise entry. It remains in fine company, voted in along with its sister island Cebu,” said Travel + Leisure writer Rebecca Ascher-Walsh in an article published on Tuesday.

Indonesia dominated the top three spots with Java, a first-timer on the list, topping the survey with a score of 95.28.

Bali placed second with 94.06, while Lombok secured the third spot with 93.88.

Boracay ranked second and third in 2016 and 2017, respectively, but missed a spot in this year’s global readers survey.

The island was temporary closed to tourists since April 26 to give way to its rehabilitation.
