MANILA – Were you once an avid player of Ragnarok Online? Here’s some good news for you!

On Sunday, Gravity Co. Ltd., which originally created Ragnarok Online, announced that the hit online game will be coming back to the Philippines soon.

This comes after Ragnarok Online enjoyed a successful “renaissance” in Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia just recently.

Speaking before hundreds of gamers at a press conference, Gravity CEO Kitamura Yoshinori said: “We took a short break for five years to have a new start and we are now more than ready to make our way up once again in the Philippines.”

Ragnarok Online was first launched in the Philippines in 2003. The game was welcomed by gamers nationwide with almost 10 million accumulated users. A few years ago, RO closed down its servers in the country.

As part of the relaunch, Yoshinori said Gravity and its partner, Electronics Extreme, will work on “potential plans to develop new content specifically for the Filipino users.”

Executives of Gravity Co. Ltd., Electronics Extreme and Elite grace the Ragna Festival at the SM North EDSA Annex.

Yoshinori revealed that they have been actively communicating with over 200,000 Ragnarok users since April through social networks.

“We have plans to actively implement the opinions we gathered from these communications for our service in the Philippines,” he said.

With what the companies have been doing leading up to the official relaunch, Electronics Extreme COO Rithirong Kaewvicheara promised that this new version of Ragnarok Online will be the best one.

Aside from the big announcement, last Sunday's event also promoted as the first Ragnarok Online community gathering.

Dubbed the Ragna Festival, the event featured performances from local bands such as Sandwich and Imago, as well as a cosplay competition.

The Ragnarok Online community gathering was held at the SM North EDSA Annex.
