MANILA – Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita “Winwyn” Marquez was set to become the first Filipina ever to grace the Boulevard Carnaval in Bolivia.

But the Filipina beauty queen had to skip the event, which she described as “the longest catwalk in Bolivia.”

She took to Instagram to explain her absence, posting a photo of a costume she was supposed to wear to the event.

“Due to the bad weather yesterday, the Boulevard Carnaval was moved today,” she wrote in a post dated January 15.

“Pero hindi na po ako makakasali dahil naka-schedule ang 3 connecting flights ko ngayon na umaabot ng 3 days ang biyahe, and mahirap na i-rebook dahil sa oras kaya kinakailangan na makauwi today. Plus meron ding hinahabol na work sa Pilipinas.”

Marquez said the Reina Hispanoamericana organization decided that it is best for her to go back to the Philippines.

“It’s sad but nagpapasalamat pa rin ako sa week na ‘to kahit ang daming nangyari. May purpose din bakit nangyari ‘to, di ba?” she asked.

Marquez is the first Filipina to win the Latina-dominated Reina Hispanoamericana pageant.

She is the daughter of actors Joey Marquez and Alma Moreno.
