ILOCOS SUR – Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis ''Chavit'' Singson has been proclaimed a councilor by the Board of Canvassers in the town of Narvacan.

Garnering 10,175 votes, Singson ranked fourth among the eight elected councilors.

Singson's candidacy became controversial after a resident petitioned to disqualify him. The petitioner argued that Singson was not qualified to run for councilor in Narvacan since he had been a resident of Vigan City.

The Commission on Elections, however, later approved his transfer of residency.

Singson's decision to run for councilor in Narvacan was allegedly triggered by his desire to gain control of the town, considered as the territory of the Zaragoza family which does not enjoy a good relationship with the Singsons.

Chavit, for his part, insisted that he ran for councilor in the town only out of his desire to help.

Singson is considered as one of Ilocos Sur’s most prominent politicians, enjoying good ties with most of the political families governing different towns and cities.

He had served for four decades as a governor and a representative.

SINGSONS WINNING

Incumbent Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis Singson, who ran unopposed, was set to be proclaimed on Tuesday afternoon.

Chavit's brother Jeremias also ran unopposed for vice-governor.
Jaime Singson and Maria Mikaela Karita Singson Mendoza are also leading the provincial board race.

Carlo Singson Medina's victory as Vigan City mayor is already secured as he ran unopposed. His sister Janina Medina Fariñas and their uncle John Patrick Singson also won as city councilors.

In the town of Caoayan, Juan Paolo Singson Ancheta also ran unopposed as mayor.

Incumbent 2nd District Representative Eric Singson scored a landslide victory for his second term. His brother Alfonso is unopposed as vice mayor of Candon City.

Ericson Singson also won as Candon City mayor.
