MANILA - Alma Moreno did not dream of becoming a member of the Senate. She was only urged to run.

But because her ambition lacked direction, it made the bitter pill of defeat easier to swallow for the actress.

"Hindi nga ako lumuha eh. Pag nanalo ako, mas luluha ako," said Moreno, whose experience in government pales in comparison with her fellow candidates.

She added that she would have felt a mix of joy and worry if she had entered the so-called "Magic 12."

"Hindi naman talaga ako nangarap talagang maging senador eh. Siguro nakita ni Lord na hanggang dito ka lang. May dahilan lahat si Lord. May reason iyan. Mayroon kang mas magandang pupuntahan," she explained.

Based on the partial and unofficial tally from the Commission on Elections as of 7:16 p.m. on Wednesday, Moreno is 24th among the senatorial candidates with over two million votes. This, despite not having political ads and commercials.

"Natuwa ako kasi maski papaano ay may boto ako. At hindi lang, number 24 ako. So hindi mo puwedeng sabihin na nandoon ako sa babang-baba. Mayroon pa rin palang nagmamahal sa akin," she said.

But finishing above expectations is not Moreno's only reason to celebrate. Her son, Vandolph, won a councilorship seat in Parañaque City. "Mas mahirap bilang ina na makita mong natalo iyong anak mo eh," she shared.

A plea for critics

Moreno had a colorful campaign, to say the least. Her interview with ABS-CBN News' Karen Davila was perhaps one of the most talked about during the whole campaign period, regardless of it being viewed in a negative light.

Her name also appeared to have always been present during controversial topics, thanks largely to the wit and humor of a parody Twitter account that bears Moreno's name.

On Monday, during the height of the election fever, the parody account had many netizens in fits of laughter.

The account has since been deleted after Moreno's family asked for it to be taken down. "Please, tigilan na ho ninyo ako. Tama na iyon, kumbaga ang taong sobra nang bumagsak, wag nang apakan," Moreno said. --with a report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News
