MANILA - Aga Muhlach surprised the audience of "Pinoy Boyband Superstar" on Saturday when he brought in "The Voice of the Philippines" coach Lea Salonga.

Salonga was asked to weigh in on contestant Nico Nicolas' performance who needed one more vote to advance to the next round.

Muhlach asked Salonga who between him and Nicolas sang better. Salonga, Muhlach's former screen partner, said it was Nicolas.

Nicolas, a 20-year-old from Tondo, wowed judge Yeng Constantino with his rendition of Shamrock's "Alipin" which showcased his thick and deep voice.

Korean pop star Sandara Park said she would give Nicolas another chance but comedian Vice Ganda gave a thumbs down, saying the contest has been accepting good-looking contestants with fair singing prowess who could do better.

With a total of three votes, Nicolas will advance to the next round alongside Quezon city charmer Raymond Mabute, and British-Filipino Sef Hynard.

Hosted by Billy Crawford, "Pinoy Boyband Superstar" airs every Saturday after "Home Sweetie Home" and on Sundays after "Goin' Bulilit."
