Were they business partners? Friends? Lovers?

Ella Cruz on Tuesday's "Tonight with Boy Abunda" addressed the many speculations surrounding her relationship with businessman Xian Gaza, who infamously asked out Erich Gonzales for a coffee date via a billboard sign.

Following the outcry over his billboard gimmick early last month, photos of him and Cruz together began surfacing online. This led to Cruz's mother calling him a "stalker" and a "scammer."

Ending the rumors once and for all, Cruz told Abunda: "Ang totoo po niyan ay marami talagang nangyari po. Lumabas naman po lahat pero katulad nga ng sinasabi ko ayaw ko na pong pinag-uusapan kasi tapos naman na po at nangyari nanaman na po. Naging business patners po kami."

She continued: "Noong una po siya iyong lumalapit and then nag-open siya ng business for my dance studio before. Tapos nagkaroon po ng mga problema, the usual na problema po sa business. Hanggang sa mga hindi na maganda na nangyari na.

"Naging mabuti po kaming magkaibigan. Hanggang magkaibigan lang po kami. Pero dahil nga po may business involved at hindi ko rin naman ganoon pa kakilala iyong tao, mali po pala na magtiwala kayo agad," she concluded.

Cruz did not elaborate on her mother's "scammer" accusations, which Gaza has already vehemently denied.

Cruz was a guest on "Tonight with Boy Abunda" to promote her upcoming romantic comedy, "Fanboy/Fangirl."

The Joyce Bernal-produced flick stars her alongside Julian Trono. It tells the story of a fan who scores the opportunity of a lifetime to coach her idol, Ollie (Trono), a handsome wannabe actor.

It will premiere in cinemas nationwide on September 6.
