MANILA -- An emotional Joshua Oliveros broke down in tears after his coach Lea Salonga selected him to advance to the live shows of “The Voice Kids” on Sunday.

Oliveros bawled as he ran to thank Salonga after the Broadway star chose him along with Angel Penaflor and Yessha Hilkiah dela Calzada to represent FamiLEA in the live shows.

The young boy from Antique, who wants to use his talent to improve his parents' relationship, impressed the coaches with his performance of Yeng Constantino’s hit ballad, “Ikaw,” which Salonga said is Oliveros’ best performance so far on the show.

Salonga admitted that she was nervous for Oliveros because she found him lacking heart during rehearsals. “Parang ngayon ko lang siyang nakitang ganito,” she said, noting how his eyes would light up.

“Huwag mong kalimutan na ito yung pinakamagaling mong pagkanta sa ngayon,” she told him.

Bamboo, meanwhile, praised the boy for giving an “emotional” and “soulful” rendition of the popular tune.

Salonga explained that she picked Oliveros “dahil malaki ang potensyal na nakikita ko sa kanya at malaki rin ang puso at emosyon na pinapakita sa kanyang pagkanta.”

"The Voice Kids," which is hosted by Luis Manzano, Robi Domingo, and Kim Chiu, airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and on Sundays after "Wansapanataym."
