MANILA – Kapamilya singer Jed Madela is set to fly to the United States to host this year’s World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA).

Madela, who is the first Asian grand champion in the WCOPA, is the first Filipino who has been invited to host the event.

“Sobra akong excited kasi mapapasabak ako sa isang bagong trabaho naman. Every year bumabalik ako doon para kumanta at mag-judge. This year, since it’s their 20th anniversary, ako 'yung in-invite nila bilang ako 'yung first Asian na nanalo doon,” he said in an interview on “Umagang Kay Ganda” on Monday.

The WCOPA will be held from July 8 to July 17 in Long Beach, California and features singers, dancers, models, actors, instrumentalists and variety artists from over 50 countries competing for prizes like $400,000 in scholarship, a recording contract and bronze, silver and gold recognitions.

Meanwhile, Madela said he still prefers to stay in the Philippines although he has been getting a lot of offers to start a career abroad.

After hosting WCOPA, Madela will have a show in Chicago on July 24 before he returns to the Philippines.
