MANILA -- While many say marriage is the key to living "happily ever after," actresses Sunshine Dizon and Sunshine Cruz show that fairy tales sometimes don't happen in real life.

They were once deeply in love with the men of their dreams, the fathers of their kids. But not all relationships succeed.

Dizon married Timothy Tan in 2010, while Cruz married Cesar Montano in 2000. This year, both Dizon and Cruz are no longer living under the same roof with their husbands.

Sunshine Cruz vs. Cesar Montano

In 2013, Cruz sued Montano for allegedly raping her. She allegedly experienced "physical harm, obscene accusations, and grave defamation" under her “very domineering, philandering" husband.

She also accused her husband of performing lewd acts in front their three daughters. Rumors surfaced that the 53-year-old actor had been dating actress Krista Miller.

A year later, Cruz, filed an annulment case against Montano. She is hopeful that her annulment will finally get granted this year.

Sunshine Dizon vs. Timothy Tan

On Sunday, Dizon's husband said he and his wife ended their six-year marriage.

According to Tan, their relationship have been on the rocks since the beginning of 2016. Despite their attempt to resolve their issues, he said they "both concluded that an annulment is warranted."

But to Tan's statement, Dizon said she will not grant the annulment, but will seek justice instead.

“There is no forgiveness for what you did. No annulment for you. I will seek justice. I will see you both in court,” she wrote on an Instagram post.

Tan was allegedly having an affair.

In her recent statement sent through her manager Perry Lansingan, the 32-year-old Dizon said she intends to finish her legal battle until the very end.

According to her, she is not just fighting for herself but also for her children, as well as other people who are in the same situation as her.

"Hindi ko po ipagkakait sa inyo ang mga mangyayari sa buhay ko at sa pinaglalaban ko legally as your overwhelming support inspires me to fight not only for myself, for my children but also for those out there who are in the same situation like me," she wrote.

Same names, different stories

Cruz's annulment case against Montano has been pending in court for three years now. Despite that, she remains positive that she could regain her "freedom" soon.

For Dizon, her legal battle has just begun. And she swore she will finish it in hope that her case turns into a "story of courage."

On Monday, while Dizon insisted that she will not grant her husband's wish for annulment, Cruz took to Facebook to express her desire to get her annulment approved.

"Same name, almost same situation but the difference is I want my annulment ASAP! Been separated for 3 years. Filed 2 years ago. I want my 110% freedom then I will be the happiest. Please Lord!" she wrote.

The Facebook post, however, was later deleted.

While the two Sunshines may have different reasons for leaving their husbands, they share same goal. They both want to find happiness and inspire other women who are in the same situation as they are.
