MANILA - A 12-year-old girl from Bulacan is the latest addition to the team of Broadway star Lea Salonga on "The Voice Kids."

On Sunday, Kate Escol wowed the judges with her powerful voice as she performed the ballad "Don't Cry Out Loud."

"Twelve pa lang, ang laki na ng boses. Gusto ko 'yung pagka-alto niya, ibig sabihin 'yung pagkababa niya, for a girl. Doon ako na-surprise," Sharon Cuneta told Escol.

Lea Salonga, for her part, said: "I love the depth of your voice, I love the color. I love that you're an alto."

Bamboo Mañalac, on the other hand, explained why he did not turn for Escol. "I felt 'yung tone ng boses mo, pinapalaki mo. I hope 'yun ang ma-draw nila from you, to sing naturally, to sing with your own natural voice," he said.

Escol eventually decided to join Salonga's team, becoming her first recruit of the episode.

"The Voice Kids," which is hosted by Luis Manzano, Robi Domingo, and Kim Chiu, airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and on Sundays after "Goin' Bulilit."
