MANILA -- Liza Soberano, who has been tabbed by fans as a potential beauty queen, has been cast to play Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach in a special episode of ABS-CBN's long-running drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK)."

The news was confirmed by Soberano's talent manager Ogie Diaz on Tuesday.

"She's taping for 'MMK' as the young Pia Wurtzbach," Diaz said. "Bumangka sila sa story talaga noong wala pa siya sa pageant-pageant, so story ng family."

On Tuesday via Instagram, veteran actress-singer Zsa Zsa Padilla confirmed that she will be working with Soberano on the "MMK" episode.

Diaz also announced Soberano will also start shooting her new television series, "Bagani," with leading man Enrique Gil for Star Creatives.

Meanwhile, Diaz was mum when asked about a report that Soberano has already been tapped to play the superhero Darna in an upcoming movie.

"Kino-consider si Liza, yes. But 'yung confirmation will come from Star Cinema," Diaz stressed.

On Tuesday, Philippine Star editor Ricky Lo announced in his column that Soberano will be playing Darna, citing unnamed sources.
