MANILA -- Rayver Cruz posted a photo of him with Janine Gutierrez on Instagram attending a birthday party together, sparking rumors that he is dating the actress.

Cruz, who used to go out with Cristine Reyes and was linked with ex-beauty queen MJ Lastimosa, was seen resting his head on Gutierrez's shoulder for the shot. Also in it was Cruz's brother, Rodjun.

Gutierrez was all smiles for the photo, prompting fans to quickly speculate that she is moving on from Elmo Magalona with the Kapamilya actor. Her relationship with Magalona ended last year.

Push interviewed Gutierrez's mother, Lotlot de Leon, and was asked about her thoughts on her daughter's new rumored beau.

"Basta kung saan siya masaya at basta maligaya siya, okay lang sa akin. Huwag lang nakikita ko 'yung anak ko na nasasaktan," De Leon, speaking at a press preview for her film "1st Sem," said.

She added: "Ganoon pala 'yon, no? Bilang magulang, kapag nakita mo iyong anak mo, iyong anak mo na nasasaktan, you feel so helpless. Hindi ka makagawa ng paraan para tumigil iyong sakit na nararamdaman niya. So kapag masaya sila, mas masaya ako."

De Leon also explained that she already knows Cruz as she and the actor worked in a past ABS-CBN series.

"Kahit na matagal kaming hindi nagkikita, kapag nagkikita kami ulit, parang kahapon lang," she shared. "He's a good person. He's a good boy. Whatever happens to him, ngayon magkaibigan sila ni Janine, I don’t know what their plans are or what his plans are, maybe siya iyong dapat tanungin natin."
