Putting Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno in the same room as Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo de Castro is a recipe for tension.

The two shared the stage at the Philippine Women Judges Association (PWJA) event in Manila on Thursday.

Sereno made no attempt at all to hide her animosity towards the "unfair" impeachment proceedings at the House of Representatives, which saw De Castro testify against her.

She used her time on to podium to criticize all of the "lies, threats, harassment, and bullying" that have been thrown her way and that she will not "yield" in the face of them.

This did not sit well with De Castro, president of the PWJA, who refused to engage Sereno with forced pleasantries as they crossed paths onstage. Instead, she went straight for the mic .

However, Vilma Santos was also the event to help thaw out the increasingly frosty atmosphere.

The Batangas representative was invited as a guest speaker and she used the opening part of her speech to draw laughs from the audience.

"Ay salamat at nadinig ko naman kayong tumawa. Kanina pa po [na] ang bigat bigat ng loob ko," she admitted.

"Puwede ho bang magkuwentuhan na lang tayo?" she said, sharing that she was invited to speak about her experiences as a woman in politics and showbiz.

"Just to make the environment and the ambiance more lighter and fun. Let's all think fabulous! We're all fabulous!"
