Carl Malone Montecido's gift to viewers of "Tawag ng Tanghalan" goes beyond just his soaring voice he brings to the stage day in, day out. In his attempt to book his place in the finals of the singing contest on Wednesday, he reminded us again of his ability to inspire those who have suffered one too many failures in life.

For his performance on "It's Showtime," Montecido, who was born blind, ditched his balladeer persona and unleashed a gravelly voice he hasn't really shown prior, covering the karaoke staple, Freddie Aguilar's "Estudyante Blues."

It earned him the highest number of combined judges' score and text votes (91.4 percent), defeating the likes of Rachel Gabreza, Pauline Agupitan, and Maricel Callo.

Thanking his supporters, Montecido showed humility in saying that he has been very fortunate to even have a chance to sing in front of a huge audience.

"Hindi ako magsasawang sabihin ito na kahit I am a person with disability ay nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na lumaban sa 'It's Showtime.' Sa lahat nang naniwala sa akin, maraming salamat po," he said, holding back tears.

Letting himself give in to his emotions is understandable as Montecido's journey to the finals hasn't been the kindest. A losing finalist of "Pilipinas Got Talent," he first tried out for the rebooted version of "Tawag ng Tanghalan" back in October.

He suffered another heartbreak yet again, falling short of a semifinals spot after having his four-day win streak snapped. But he decided to have a go at it once more, saying that he wants to continue serving as inspiration to people with similar physical disabilities.

His tough resolve has earned him the respect of those from his barangay in Bacolod, whom he didn't forget to thank.

"Maraming maraming salamat sa inyo dahil kahit nung maliit pa lang ako, nung nangangarap pa lang akong kumanta, na maging isang sikat na musikero, kayo iyong sumporta sa akin," he said.

"So sa lahat ng -- hindi lang sa mga taga-Bacolod -- sa Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao na naniniwala sa akin, sobrang maraming, maraming salamat po," he said.

Montecido will join Froilan Canlas and Noven Belleza in the "Tawag ng Tanghalan" grand finals on Saturday. Two more spots are up for grabs.
