MANILA – Tears rolled down Liza Soberano’s cheeks as she said her appreciation speech during the thanksgiving party of “My Ex and Whys,” which is her most successful movie to date with Enrique Gil.

As of Friday, the Star Cinema movie has already made P341 million worldwide.

Speaking in front of ABS-CBN executives and everyone who worked tirelessly in making the movie possible, Soberano admitted she did not expect “My Ex and Whys” to do this well.

“I really didn’t because I felt like I did a bad job but hearing you all say that you guys really enjoyed the movie and that there was so much good feedback, I am just so grateful and thankful,” she said crying.

Soberano also gave special thanks to their director, filmmaker Cathy Garcia-Molina, for not giving up on her.

“I basically started with her doing ‘Got to Believe,’ ‘Forevermore’ and then this movie. She never gave up on me even during the times when I felt like I couldn’t give my best, when I felt like I wasn’t delivering what she wanted me to deliver, she was there,” she said.

Before handing the mic to Gil, Soberano likewise gave a shout out to their avid supporters.

“To all the supporters, to all the LizQuen fans na paulit-ulit nagpa-block screening, thank you guys. We wouldn’t be here right now celebrating kung hindi dahil sa inyo. Thank you so much,” she said.

"My Ex and Whys" is Soberano and Gil’s third movie together where they play the lead roles. The film’s box office success is a proof of their growing popularity since they were first paired in “Forevermore.”
