Asking your future in-laws for their blessing is often a nerve-wracking experience.

Just look at Aljur Abrenica, for example, who admittedly could not decide on what to wear for his "pamamanhikan" --the tradition of seeking the approval of the woman's parents to wed.

He eventually went with a simple polo shirt with jeans as he rang the door on Robin Padilla's home last weekend.

There, he stood, with his fiancé, Kylie Padilla, and his family behind him, and recited a line he has been practicing all morning.

Recalling the scene during his "Tonight With Boy Abunda" interview this Friday, he said: "Sabi ko, 'Tito Robin, nandito po ako para pormal na hingin iyong kamay ng anak ninyo'."

Relief is an understatement, he said, to describe what he felt as they were welcomed in.

It can be recalled that Abrenica did not share the best of relationships with Robin prior to that dinner. The action star has been vocal about his frustrations toward Abrenica, who has yet to marry Kylie.

At the dinner, Abrenica shared that Robin pulled him aside and apologized to him. "Humingi po siya ng paumanhin sa mga nangyari dati, kung bakit hindi niya kami masuportahan," he said.

Abrenica added that he understood his future father-in-law after he saw the way the "Pilipinas Got Talent" judge would look at Kylie protectively.

Abrenica continued his story by saying that he also apologized to Robin for taking his time in asking for his permission.

He also assured Robin that he and Kylie are already talking about their wedding plans, and that he received tips on how to become a good father.
