MANILA -- Comedian Vice Ganda on Thursday asked Filipinos to stop bashing Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Medina.

The 40-year-old self-professed pageant enthusiast said everyone should just pray for Medina. "'Pag nanalo 'yon, pride nating lahat. Kaya ipagdasal natin, trabahuin natin na manalo 'yong kandidata natin," he said.

According to Vice Ganda, it's such as shame that some Filipinos are bashing their own candidate instead of supporting her.

"E sa ibang bansa makarinig sila ng ganun na mali 'yong Ingles wala naman silang pakialam, hindi naman big deal 'yon. Sa Pilipinas lang naman big deal talaga 'yang pag-i-Ingles," he said.

The "It's Showtime" host is throwing his support for Medina by encouraging his followers to vote for her. The comedian has over 8 million followers on Twitter and a whopping 13.6 million on Facebook.

"Let's give her all the support she needs from us. Let's pray for her, and let's claim that she's gonna win," he added.

It will be recalled that Medina drew flak for her grammatical errors at a press conference last January 10.

This has stirred debate as to whether or not Medina should get an interpreter during the question and answer portion of the 65th Miss Universe coronation night on January 30.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Medina has said that she is open to seek help from an interpreter if that could bring her the crown.

"I'm here to win. Kung kailangan ko ng translator, kukuha ako," she quipped.
