It's a story that feels as old as time. A young couple falls in love and dreams of succeeding in life together. Along the way their relationship is tested, they make foolish decisions, and at some point they doubt whether cupid just played a cruel trick on them. Then, before they know it, they find themselves taking separate paths at the first fork in the road.

But as they say, there's comfort in the familiar, in knowing that you're not the only one who goes through these problems that plague many of today's youth who decided to marry early or have unsafe sex. The finale of "Till I Met You," which wrapped on Friday, has this sense of familiarity in troves. It's both a strength and weakness.

The episode opens with a scene that will give fans of James Reid and Nadine Lustre a serious case of deja vu. Iris (Lustre) realizes that she had made the wrong decision in pushing away her husband Basti (Reid) and let him go to Greece. She then rallies her family to get her to the airport before Basti's plane leaves so she could tell him how she really feels.

It's basically the same first few minutes of the finale of "On the Wings of Love," Reid and Lustre's previous primetime outing. But instead of Reid's character doing the chasing, it's Lustre's turn to get stuck in traffic and whatnot.

But as what's been previously said of the series, it seems to have mastered baiting its viewers into expecting one thing before completely turning it on its head. So when fans presumed that Iris will make it to the airport in time, she doesn't. It's pretty clever of the series to play around with this said sense of familiarity in order to deliver something quite unexpected.

But of course, the mandatory happy ending is given. As Iris drags herself home, she finds Basti waiting at the front of their house. They remind each other of the promise they made to each other that they will stick with this relationship come what may. "Tayo hanggang dulo," they both say at the same time, before kissing.

The story doesn't end there, however. Flash forward and the pair decide to marry again, this time in church. They also announce Iris is pregnant with twins — a dream come true for them who had their first pregnancy aborted.

With all the smiling, it may come off as a tad too rushed and sugar-coated, but don't let that distract you from the series' message for young couples, which is quite simple and clear: make good with your promise to stay together. It's a warning for young couples not to throw the word "promise" around lightly and consider the possible challenges that may derail their road to forever.

It's telling couples that rather than splitting up at the first sign of trouble, hold each others hands instead, pick a path at the fork, and walk it together.
