MANILA – “Vince & Kath & James” is the overall top grosser of the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), the movie’s producer, Star Cinema, announced on Thursday.

In an Instagram post, Star Cinema said the movie top-billed by Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia and Ronnie Alonte earned P105 million during MMFF 2016, which ran from December 25, 2016 to January 3, 2017.

“Maraming, maraming, maraming salamat, Kapamilya!” Star Cinema said.

“Die Beautiful” starring Paolo Ballesteros ranked second with P98 million, according to Star Cinema. This was followed by “Seklusyon” (P82 million), “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2” (P45 million), “Saving Sally” (P27 million), “Sunday Beauty Queen” (P7.8 million), “Kabisera” (P4.3 million) and “Oro” (P4.2 million).

Directed by Theodore Boborol, “Vince & Kath & James” centers on the three title characters and how their love triangle develops and tangles through text messaging and social media.

It has received fairly positive reviews from local critics, with some comparing Garcia, who plays a shy, geeky, college student named Vince who harbors a crush on Kath, to veteran actor John Lloyd Cruz.
